TOWN OF CAMPBELL FIRE DEPARTMENT AWARDED GRANT FOR NEW FIRE TRUCK

CAMPBELL (FRENCH ISLAND), WI: The Town of Campbell Fire Department has been awarded a highly competitive grant for a new fire truck by the 2011 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
The grant awarded to CFD during the 7th round of announcements is $265,000 for purchase of a new tanker/tender truck, with a cost of $13,250 in matching funds to the Town of Campbell. This grant replaces a 28-year old truck that was repurposed as a firefighting vehicle. The grant proposal was written by Campbell’s firefighters with the intention of helping their Town.

“We are very blessed to be awarded this grant through such a highly competitive process.” said Fire Chief Nate Melby. “This will be a huge benefit to our Town, give us more reliable equipment, and the standard safety features on a newer truck will keep our firefighters safer”.
